Group Checkups Gaining Ground
Most of us have on occasion asked a friend, relative or spouse to go with us to a doctor’s appointment but how many of us have actually shared an appointment with 9 or 10 other patients? Dr. Ray Dorsey’s pilot study of group doctor appointments suggests that not only might they be helpful to patients managing certain chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s and diabetes, group appointments might also offer a solution to the growing shortage of primary care docs.

Shared checkups aim to help patients who are battling certain chronic diseases, and they're far from the typical 15-minute office visit. They're stretched over 90 minutes or even two hours, offering more time to quiz the doctor about concerns, learn about managing the disease — and get tips from fellow patients.
