Trade Tips: The Kind of PR You Don’t Want - A Bad Event

The Kind of PR You Don’t Want - A Bad Event

In this life, it’s hard to satisfy everyone but we immediately know the difference between a well-run event versus a bad one. A concert, conference, convention, seminar or workshop: typically, these events require several months or perhaps a year of planning to ensure successful outcomes. What are successful outcomes? Well, hopefully your attendees (usually paying people) will believe they’ve received a good return on investment (ROI) by going to your event and won’t mind returning to another (and will tell others to go). Also, it is hoped they have more positive memories of the event rather than negative, regardless if it’s a three-hour seminar or week-long convention. We remember the good events but have more to say about those that went wrong.

From late start and end times, to far too lengthy speeches, facilities hard to navigate through, bad food, no food, poor sound and video systems, these moments can make your guests regret they ever wasted their time and money on you. Our tip: If event management is not your strength do not disregard the benefit of contracting an event planner/event management company. If your budget is lean, seek out someone whose expertise is highly regarded yet won’t burn your wallet. There are some things worth spending the money rather than doing it yourself. Having a successful, positive event is one of them. Even if flaws occur behind the scenes, a good event team can manage those to where your event doesn’t miss a beat. A poorly executed event can lead to low turnout for future events as word spreads. Because people WILL talk, we say spend the money and hire an event planner!
